i think he is just still nervous and you need to give him a few weeks to settle in. I just moved my frogs to a new enclosure, its been 2 weeks and they are finally settling in. Give your snake time. The good thing is you don't have to feep ball pythons as often as frogs.. altnough the worst thing that would happen to me is I would get gummed.

welcome.

Re: Help new BP owner

your setup sounds good, give him a little time and patience is the key. He sounds like he didn't have much of any handling before you got him. Give him a couple of weeks adjustment time, then handle him for short periods of time (no more than about 15 minutes) a few times a day, always making him feel secure and safe by holding his whole body in your hands. he will ball a lot at first, but as he becomes used to being handled will be more relaxed. Be patient! I know it's hard when you have a new one not to handle it a lot!

Re: Help new BP owner

It's me again. Another thing is to be sure to feed in a separate space than his living cage. We have a clear plastic tote that we feed ours in. They know that is their only feeding area. It keeps them from biting you when you clean their cage or try to take them out to handle. Also, with my bitey jcd, when he was young, we used to put a small towel over his head when we would first take him out of his cage, as he was used to being fed in his cage at the store.

Re: Help new BP owner

just need to let him get used to the new home, some take longer to settle in than others. It would be like you moving to a major city from the country and then having all your neighbors knocking on your door im sure you would get irritated. I got two bp also one of mine was a week settling in and the other was 3 days.. but they were both handle often at the pet store...
