F/T dilemma
My BP was raised on live before I got him. He was about 2 yrs old then. I had gotten him switched over to eating F/T just great...then he went on a fast...for 9 months! I thought it was a fast anyway...I threw out 4 dead rats. I recently put in a live rat and he went NUTS! He no longer wants anything to do with F/T. Any suggestions?

Hum, you would think if he was hungry enough, he would eat anything. You could try buying live and killing them yourself, i know it sounds cruel, but I find that to be somewhat effective.

Veronica I went through a similar dilemma with my male. For the first 2 years he ate F/T just fine. during the last fast in an effort to break it I fed live and ended up feeding stunned for the entire summer! Wouldn't take a F/T on a bet! When this spring came I started out with a live rat and after a couple of feedings I decided to try to switch him back to frozen. At first he ignored it. I took the rat and placed it under the Ceramic Heat Emitter and got it REALLY warm. He hit it right off and has been feeding on F/T all summer. This is the time of year I keep expecting him to slow down but so far he's still feeding.
If the heating doesn't work try rubbing the dead one in bedding from some live ones.

Killing them myself has crossed my mind. I have a link for home euthanasia for small animals...I couldn't do it with physically providing the means ...*shudders*...even just to stun them.
Small Animal Euthanasia at Home I still wouldn't be able to watch, but the means are a bit more humane.
