buying a motorcycle--maybe

I'm going to look at a motorbike on Saturday. I haven't had one since before I got married. Wow that's like 15 years ago. How I talked my wife into it I have no idea. I am a firm believer in "it's easier to ask for forgiveness rather than permission" That wasn't the case this time.
Here's a pic of the type I'm looking at. Not the exact bike but same type.
2001 Suzuki GSX 750 F Katana specifications and pictures
The way gas prices are going to be this summer. I'll need something really good on gas.

You might want to check on insurance rates first.
The insurance on sportbikes is outrageous!

Re: buying a motorcycle--maybe

Yeah I did that before looking. That's why I'm getting only a 750 cc. Without collision coverage it's $750 a year.

Just out of curiosity have you ever ridden one of those crotch rockets?
They are a lot different than the bikes that most of us grew up with, very touchy.
I have known several people who got seriously hurt with them.

many people get hurt because they are doing stupid things on them or don't respect the power or agility they have. Also when riding, you need full leathers, with a back spine insert, and a full face helmet, leather gloves and boots.

The only thing you CAN"T control are other motorists.

Re: buying a motorcycle--maybe

This is a sport touring bike. It's got a little less oomph than the racing bikes. The last one I had was a 600cc racer. The fastest I had it going was 225 kph that's about 140 mph. This bike has a top speed of less than that.
I'm older now and would like to take it touring a little more so the seating position is more upright. Makes for a more comfortable ride.
Yes I'll be getting some leather Marsha. Don't wait for pics on that.
Bikes in general are safe it is the other motorists that is the big problem. Unless you drive live a madman. But the way insurance jumps now after speeding tickets I don't need one. Although the speed limit on a bike seems like you could get off and walk
Since my friend has a GSXR1000 that does 100 mph in 1st gear. There's no point in trying to keep up.

Re: buying a motorcycle--maybe

Soooo, I looked at the bike and decided to buy it. The battery was dead so I said I'll be back Monday after work. Went back and they said they sold it to someone who came in after I did with cash. Yes I was mad. Not as mad as my wife mind you she was cursing up a storm.(she very rarely ever curses) The kicker is that this guy is my second cousin. Imagine how he treats people who aren't related.
So hopefully I can make it to Toronto this weekend to look at another. It's more money but only has 15 000 kms on it
