Gettin' some culture tonight
My daughter and I are going to see Godspell tonight at a local playhouse. Last year I bought us tickets to see the Lion King in the Academy of Music in Philadelphia. I was an awesome show, just amazing how people played the scenery and everything. Later that week my mother had picked up some tickets to go see Godspell at the Walnut Street Theatre also in the city. My daughter who was eleven at the time was mesmerized by the entire play. She loved the music too. This Godspell was set to a rock anthem theme. She told me it was 100x better than the Lion King!
So we saw in the paper that a local theatre (non-professional actors) is doing Godspell so I picked us up some tix. I hope she is not disappointed after seeing it done by professional actors!

I hope you have a good time! I myself have very little culture experience per say. lol
I have been to a couple art exhibits, and have seen one performance by some singing/dancing kids (I don't recall what it was called. It was a musical of sorts.) my primary means of exposure to anything cultural is my eating habits. I will try anything once and have experienced numerous food items from different cultures.

Years ago I was part of technical part of "Godspell" that was done through the Community College Theatre Department. Now that I think of it that was another life time ago. I try to introduce my boys to theatre as much as possible. Christmas 05 I forced them to watch "White Christmas" for the first time. This year they were taking the DVD and watching it themselves.

The play was suprising very good! We both really enjoyed it!
My dauther, Kate, likes anything musical. She is the school chorus, she will never do solos but she doesn't sound bad. She certianly didn't get her singing ability from me, lol! She is also a third year alto saxophone player in her school band. She also played all three years in the schoold district band. She told me this week that the band instructor asked her to participate in the High School Marching Band next year!!! THis is a huge honor, considering she will only be in seventh grade next year. Usually the earliest that they will take in new members is eighth! I am little worried becuase she will be spending A LOT of time with kids much older than her.
But this Marching Band is awesome. They win all kinds of awards, and travel to Virginia Beach most years to participate in some kind of competition. PLus for the last 4 years they have gone to Florida to march in parades at places like Disney World!! I better start saving my pennies now, I can see some high dollar trips ahead!

Woot to the Marching Band!!! My daughter (now a freshman in college) kicks herself for not joining Marching Band in 7th grade (she has played alto sax since 3rd grade). She joined her sophomore year of HS and She absolutely loved it! And she ended up being drum major her senior year!!! It also inspired her (her band director was tops) for her major in college "Music Education" . And she also was in her college marching band!! If your marching band is anything like our marching band, it will be the best experience you will ever have...become involved and be a band parent...I enjoy it immensely...I have 2 others in band right now and 3 more boys coming up the ladder in age...so I have a long run ahead of me...Enjoy!

w00t marching band! i was a total band a music geek growing up. Tuba all the way me, but it was so much fun! Our marching band was actually pretty pathetic, but the regular band was tops, we competed all along the East cost. i'm sure your daughter will have a blast with it =^.^=

She has been playing since fourth grade, the earliest that they let them join band. I never miss a preformance! Her school band 4-8 grades is actually pretty good. They have played at Hershey Park's Talent Quest the past two years and I just got notice we will be going again on 5/31. The past two Christmas seasons they have been invited to played at the State Capitol in Harrisburg. She also plays in the district band, our school district is made up of four primary schools and one high school. That band in the primary school age is okay. The high school age, especially the jazz band is just totally awesome. There is a senior name AnneMarie that is one of the best alto sax players I have ever heard. She is Katie's inspiration.
Now that she will be in the Marching Band I will be joining the Boosters. I don't plan on missing a thing, its a good thing I get 4 weeks vacation at work!
My parents rarely came to anything that me and my brothers did. Not that my mom didn't want to, but with 4 of us and working full time it was hard. My dad to tell you the truth wasn't that involved as a parent, at least when we were kids. As a granddad he was freakin' awesome. My daughter loved him more than she loves me, lol!! We were all heart broken when he died three years, ago suddenly after a very short illness. It breaks my heart that he is not here to see her accomplishments in band. He would be so proud of her, and he would be right there will me at every preformance. I better stop, I am starting to get weepy, lol! You would think after three years I could talk about him without crying!
Anyway, I am so proud of her and will cheer her on and support her in anyway I can! No matter how many parades and football games I have to go to!
