Adopted Scorpion
Hey Everyone,
My business partner's son went on a field trip to the Northern California Coast and while in the forest he and a friend kidnapped a scorpion. It's about 3/4 inch long not counting the tail.
His Mom said 'Not in the house', so now we have it in the office.
I've researched quite a bit, but can't identify it. If anyone can help, it would be appreciated.
I've created a temporary home for it in a 2 gallon herp cage. (clear plastic, vented at the top). It's actually rooming with 3 cocoons for tobacco worms/moths who are buried in the dirt. They'll be hatching in a month or so and are twice the scorpion's size, so I'll need to make other arragements, but he/she seems cool for now.
Feeding it grubs and small crickets, office is warmer than where he came from and want to research to make sure I'm doing my best. I had a big black one during Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia and while the new one is not as exciting, the feeding process still mesmerizes me!
Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

Probably a northwest forest scorpion ( Uroctonus mordax mordax). If it is, it won't get much bigger than it already is. Its also completely harmless. Does it look something like this?

Savannah, I cant get pics to meet the standards. Not sure how to edit them to be so small and still detailed enough to be worth looking at... Sorry! Matt seems to have nailed it though. That looks like the sibling to the one we adopted. Much appreciated.
He's only taking about 1 grub a week. Is that about normal for these guys or is there another food that would be preferred?
Thanks again for all your help.

I usually recommend using purchased prey items rather than wild caught, but it really doesn't matter much what type you feed him. Crickets are probably your best bet, but you can mix it up now and then too to give some variety.
I recommend crickets because you can gutload them much easier. This means keeping the crickets alive for about a day, feeding them healthy foods, like veggies and grains. In this manner, the nutrition the crickets consume is then passed on to the scorpion when it eats the cricket, but only if the cricket gets time to get the food into its system.
Also make sure the scorpion has plenty of places to hide and burrow, and a shallow dish for water. Be sure he can't drown in it. You may want to use a soaked paper towel to offer the water.
