speaking of jumping spiders...
I caught a huge one today (well, by jumping spider standards). I was pulling weeds on T flight (cause until I have my polygraph, I won't start my normal job) and I saw this big black and white jumper in the garden. Well, since I didn't have any jars on me, I used a capture trick that's worked well in the past. I took my pen out, caught the spider in the cap, and put the cap on the back of the pen. Most pens don't go all the way to the back of the cap, so it makes a temporary little bug container. Anyway, since I can't have my pets here, this spider is my only pet I can actually see everyday. Its a large male, with metallic green pedipalps. Man, I'd love to see how big the females get. Sorry, I don't have a camera anymore though, so no pics

I know exactly the type of jumping spider you're talking about. They're pretty common over here in Northern Cali.
A little FYI, the jumping spider is one of the smartest spiders out there and it will actually communicate with other jumping spider as well as THINK instead of the majority of spiders who just react on instinct. If a jumping spider cannot cath a certain prey item one way, it will try various strategies until it gets it right.

Yeah, that's why I love keeping them. They're so smart! There's a lot of different species of jumpers out there though, are you sure we're talking about the same species? I live in Maryland. That's a far cry from northern Cali (I was going to move there). Its still possible its the same species though. Back home I'd keep tiny "bumblebee jumpers", as I called them due to their colors. I had a large grey one I caught in Minnesota too.

Awesome pic I could get some close-ups with my old camera, but it couldn't handle something quite that small. lol, it looks like he's got Spiderman eyes on his forehead! Hmm, or maybe they're his sunglasses.

Perhaps the original Spidey artist got the idea for the mask from a picture like that?

Jumper still needs a name, but at least he doesn't need any food. I went out and caught him a wood louse tonight. Finally got my webcam working too, but its proving rather difficult to get any shots of him. Any shots I do get will most likely be black blurs
