Hi

Coincidence - i was just discussing these with a friend the other day, who has been out in Iraq, where these spiders live!

They can jump from the floor to the underside of a camel, basically to hitch a ride! I'm not sure whether they feed off of the camel - i.e.the camel itself or the insects that are on the camel, but they are disturbing looking things aren't they!!!

My 'friend', who is in the army, was saying that it was someone's job over there to shoot these spiders, a little nasty, but apparently they give a nasty bite and aren't too bothered who they bite! Hmm count me out!

Ahh that picture... yes it is two seperate creatures. "camel spiders" actually are not spiders at all but are actually an arachnid called , solpugids. They are often misunderstood and thought to be spiders but are not. Theye sure are cool tho.
