New Viv... Are Isopods Safe with My Emperor?
i want to try to achieve an almost self-sustaining vivarium so I just set up my emp's 10 gallon with live plants, a 3 1/2" layered bottom and about 5" of coco fiber as the main substrate. i used a long piece of curved bark and embedded most of it, and also another interesting looking piece of wood - i dug out some soil from underneath each for hiding places/burrows . i have about 6-7 different types of plants in there, and with the layered bottom (pond pebbles, clay with screen between each) the humidity is nice and high - 90% at the moment. so my question is can I put isopods in there without them disturbing my emp? if I can, could I add some leaf litter and perhaps some rotted wood for them also? i really enjoyed setting up this viv and would not want to take it all apart if there was any issues with the little crustaceans.
your help/advice is greatly appreciated!!

Most likely the person that has the answer to this (MATT - Furryscaley) will be around soon to help you out.

Re: New Viv... Are Isopods Safe with My Emperor?
Just Curious, what type of isopods would you be using in this tank?
I Would assume Woodlice?
The tank does sound great though.
As for disturbing your Scorpion, I think the only way they would bother him, would be if they brought in some type of parasite.
I'm sure he would eat a few, and then if you feed him crickets, the crickets may even eat a few, but I don't see a few pillbugs really bothering your Emp, but if you get them, i would only get them through a supplier that breeds them, don't just catch them outside.
Hopefully Matt will chime in here further.

Re: New Viv... Are Isopods Safe with My Emperor?
good plan to get them from a breeder...
being near the ocean, humidity levels are high and allow me to grow some of my own plants outside, however, and a couple of the ones I put into the tank are from an area near the simple little roly polies. i have not had any problems with parasites in the past from using my plants in my animals vivs. should I consider using the ones from outside? there are a LOT of them under a cinder block beside my garden...

I don't know if I would, With a plant grown outside, you can wash them of, with something living, theres no telling what they have on them, or what they may have eaten.
But I have not ever used pilbugs in any of my tanks, som hopefully someone who has will know better then I.

i have put pillbugs in with my frogs. The frogs could have cared less. I got them from a place that didn't have pesticides.

Re: New Viv... Are Isopods Safe with My Emperor?
They didn't breed at all, as far as I can tell. And I got them from a state park by turning over a few rocks. I figured that was the safest away from pesticides. Just because I don't use them or my neighbor doesn't water travels and with water traveling comes pesticide. I figured the middle of 40 acres was pretty safe.
