It looks like a funnel web to me. Agelenidae. I don't know what kind, though. I found only one picture on the net that looked exactly like yours, and it labeled it a "mystery spider." But the picture had him near a funneled web, and the features look similar to other funnel web spiders, so maybe...
(I'm not great at identifying spider species, unfortunately).

These don't build webs. They're hunting spiders. Someone says it's some sort of water spider, which makes sense, since I've seen them running across water.

Hmmm... The coloring is similar to Dolomedes spiders, but the body shape and eyes are all wrong... Could it be a female Shore Spider (Pardosa Milvina)?
You could submit the picture here: What's That Bug: Even More Spiders 2007 and see if they can identify it for you.
