am i evil if...

Well I live in texas now but I just moved from south lousiana. There was a large abundance of the common green anole. Am I evil if during the spring and summer months I would simply walk to the side of my house grab the largest anole I could find, and feed it to my bearded dragon or musk turtle?

Evil ? not at all, but something I consider suspect. Your pets are in a controlled environment whuch is basically free from parasites and pesticides. By giving them "natural" food sources you are increasing the chance of introduction.

LOL, is there something called F/T anoles? I don't know if it's evil but you should be thinking about parasites and mites.

You can get feeder anoles at bigappleherp.com I believe, or LLLreptile.com

Man... I know how you feel grim... My cats are always bringing in freshly killed mice and other such yummies and it is salways so tempting not to waste them! But I couldn't risk it.

Hello,

Nope, you aren't evil. I too think it is a bad idea though. You are offering your herps an array of potentially lethal chemicals and parasites.

On another note, didn't the petstore you worked at advise against feeding items from the yard?

As tempting as it is to save a few bucks by supplying prey from outside, is it really worth it if your animals die? With outside prey you have no idea where they have been, what they have consumed or what type of foreign nasties that they are carrying and you are introducing into your nice sterile environment.

i never brought it up to them actually, I would hope they would have told me the same thing as you, even though at this point I'm starting to wonder what kind of crap they could have possibly told me. It probably doesn't matter anymore though because everything in the panhandle of texas is pretty much dead. and everything that ive fed any of my pets in the last six months has been from a petshop and not my backyard. I've seen captive bread feeder anoles before, are they alright for my Bearded Dragons consumption? My beardy really likes the anoles.

Hello,

If you are purchasing anoles, I don't see a problem with it if the beardy really enjoys eating them. I would limit them to being a treat though. Daily salads will help curb his appetitie. The insects you feed along with the salad will keep him pretty satisfied. The anoles, as treats, will just be the icing on the cake. (You are the first person I have encountered that feeds anoles to his beardy btw. lol)
