IDing brown anoles
I was just redoing some of my old caresheets, and came across the one on brown anoles. It dawned on me that as of now I don't know how to tell the difference between a Bahaman brown anole (Anolis sagrei ordinatus) and a Cuban brown anole (Anolis sagrei sagrei). Does anyone know the physical differences, if there are any? Or a site that explains them? I'm off to go looking.

When I purchased my brown at Petsmart, it was said to be a Bahaman Brown. I'm not sure if there is much obvious difference. The pics of Cuban Browns that I googled lookedpretty much the same as what I have, but it's kind of hard to tell with just a picture. I'd be curious to know if you turned up anything on the subject.

Heh, I haven't really looked much yet
I've got a lot going on right now, so IDing brown anole subspecies has been pretty low on my priority list I'll figure it out someday though if nobody else does.

Matt, take a look at these, it reads like they are one in the same and only expressing differences that were able to form in the 50 years or so of their dispersal. I'm not to up on my genetics though.

lol, nooooo! I must ID them! I must! Wahh!
![]() Ok, so the introduced FL populations have basically become a mess. They'll probably become their own new subspecies at this rate. However, the original populations in the Bahamas should still be distinguishable. Even though most (or all) of the anoles in the pet trade come from Florida, and therefore will be the same, it'd be interesting to see if there's a physical difference between the original populations ![]()
