Best Way to Catch Knight Anole

I've been having some issues with getting my knight anole's cage finished so he is still in the 37 gallon aquarium. He has no problems with me spot cleaning daily or removing items but its been really hot here lately (and in the house) and now his cage has a musty/mildew smell to it and I'm not sure why. He also has a fruit fly nursery going on in there and the little white worms on the glass gross me out. I tried letting it dry out a bit but that didn't help so I'm going to have to tear it down and clean it.

He is not tame yet. He will follow me with the tongs when I feed and doesn't move away from my hands when they are near him but I know he will have a problem being caught. Is there ANY way I can do this without stressing him out too much, him escaping and having him scared of me again? I'm honestly more worried about him escaping since he got lost in the house for 15 min. when I got him and I have a lot more furniture than she did, lol.

Do you have a container (deli container) that will fit in the enclosure, you can try that, I was also thinking that if you could move the whole enclosure to a small room (bathroom) make sure there is not way to escape the room. Then try it in that room, then if he does escape its a small area with no places to hide. Hopefully Aja will be by, I'm sure that she has done this a few times

With untame tokay geckos I have been successful in putting a smaller container, but as big as will fit, such as a large deli cup, kritter keeper, even a cardboard box with holes in it and then using my other hand to gently guide them into it. I usually remove the larger cage furniture that I can first. Even my 11 year old niece was able to contain a large tokay doing this (with gloves on and my supervision) quite quickly. And those are quite aggressive geckos, so I'm sure you'd be able to do this with your knight anole just as easily.

I was thinking about that. I have a medium critter keeper that would fit once I take out his big branch. Of course his favorite spot to sit, sleep and pretty much live just has to be 4" from the top of the cage

I usually use slow, deliberate movements when catching my anoles, but the idea of using a critter keeper or other small container is safer. They have delicate skin and it can easily rip.

The critter keeper didn't work so I actually built an extension to sit on top of the cage that can be closed off. Its hard to explain but its made out of some leftover window screening and some skinny bamboo pieces I didn't need. I stuck a piece of bamboo in there and waited until he crawled in and then slowly picked it up and closed the bottom. Then I just set it back on the top of the tank and waited for him to come out when I was done. He just sat on the bamboo stick the entire time. It must have worked because he still follows me with the tongs and doesn't shy away from my hands when they are near him

I used to move smaller anoles in bathtubs... I dont really think that would have worked here.
