Male Green Anole Not Eating As Strongly As the Female
i have a pair of green anoles. the larger one is the female and she is doing great! she has a very plump tail and she is very healthy looking. the male on the other hand is having some problems. he has some feces stuck on the bottom of him. i try to feed them on a regular basis. i do a lot of handfeeding to my herps, but the anoles are just too jumpy to hand feed. i put a few gut loaded crickets in a dixie cup and let them eat. i even give them waxworms, but the female just eats them up before he gets one. and she even ate one from out of his mouth! she just flat out stole it from his mouth! i do believe that he has parasites and there are no vets around in my area that specialize in reptiles. i have seen little bug-like creatures in the water bowl I keep in there.
i have them on paper towel substrate and I have the humidity at 60% and the temperature at 78-80 and I mist regularly |

Re: Male Green Anole Not Eating As Strongly As the Female
I'd separate them! If one is not doing well, he might transfer his illness to the female. If he's by himself he won't have to worry about the girl stealing his food and he can relax and focus on healing!
I don't know too much about anoles, but I know seeing bug-like creatures is not a good sign! Mites maybe? What is their basking temp? Do you have UVA/UVB bulbs?

i do have UVB in their cage. also most, if not all anoles sold in the petstores are wild caught. it is nearly impossible to get an anole that is mite/parasite free.

I agree! Bugs are not good and can end up causing serious harm. You could always look at your local pet/herp store to see if they have any thing to treat mites, if that is what it is. You should also get everything out of the cage and clean it like no other! But keep them separated untill the male is doing better.

Re: Male Green Anole Not Eating As Strongly As the Female
We have some good anti-mite stuff we were able to buy, though it's still a good idea to separate them if possible. Imagine having the flu and someone who is always there keeps stealing your food! You already feel bad, and so it would be much easier to get stressed! If your guy can have time to be alone, it will help him a lot, and he will have the rest he needs to get better and start eating again!

Re: Male Green Anole Not Eating As Strongly As the Female
We bought 2 green anoles and a brown haitian anole about 6 months back and have no mite problems. We have had them before with no mite problems as well. Could just be we have a rockin pet store here that treats them before selling them. I don't know. (:

Re: Male Green Anole Not Eating As Strongly As the Female
They are pretty flighty and easily stressed. We had a rescued anole once that would deal with occassional handling, but was far more likely to try to escape.. Generally less cuddly than something like a leopard gecko!
