Lump on Neck
My male anole developed two small lumps on either side of his neck a while back. One slowly got really big and the other stayed tiny. This was what prompted me to start looking up info. on anoles and realize what the Petco folk were telling me to do wasn't even close to enough care.
I called the herp vet and they said if he was still acting normal, to just watch it for a while. So he's been active, eating, showing off for his lady friend, etc. But he's still got the lump. I uploaded a pic of him in my pics. -I think I attached a pic here... I feel like since I was only providing him with a subpar environment for a while, I hurt him. Anybody know what this is? |

Re: Lump on Neck
I have seen it before in medical journals, but what it is right now completely escapes me, I'll pull out my back issues and browse through them when I can.
If you are really worried about it (as I would be due to its size) I would insist upon a vet appointment with a qualified reptile vet. "Just wait and see" is the general response that receptionists give when they don't feel like 'working you in' or asking someone else what to do. Or they think, "It's just a little lizard, who cares?" I know that seems harsh, but I worked with a receptionist like that.

Re: Lump on Neck
Don't they have calcium sacks that fill on each side of their mouths? I maybe thinking of something else.
I agree with lacey. When in doubt go to the vet.

Re: Lump on Neck
It's so wonderful - since I put the UVB light on the cage, the mystery lumps are going down. AT first I thought I was just wishing them away, but then my husband noticed it as well. Yay!

Re: Lump on Neck
I adopted a Veiled Chameleon who had Metabolic Bone Disease, and he had lumps like you're describing. I don't know if those lumps were a part of the Metabolic Bone Disease, or just another side effect of him not having proper lighting. His never went down, but he was a bit farther gone than your anoles when I got him.
I'm glad they're getting better! You may still want to see a vet at some point, though, just to make sure whatever it is really is getting better.
