Hey HC, I have a green anole. I got him (or her) about a week ago. I was under the impression that it was a boy because when I put a mirror in front of him, he fanned his dewlap and did pushups. But just a few minutes ago, it layed an egg. I spotted the anole sliding it along the bottom of the viv next to the log hide. So now I am bit confused

My question is - if it was a girl, why would it do pushups and display her little dewlap in a mirror? And is there a way to tell if the egg is fertile or not? I don't know much about anole eggs, but I do know they need a temp around the mid-80's which is why I put a heating pad underneath the viv.

I believe in some types of anoles, the males and females both have dewlaps. Sometimes the females will have a whitish stripe down their backs.

Was the anole with any other anoles at any point that you know of?

It may have been displaying because it was frightened perhaps?

yeah it was with other anoles at the pet store a week ago. will they ever lay unfertilized eggs? and do they only lay one egg at a time?

also, i checked on the egg and noticed it has a dent in it. is that bad?
