Another Sick Anole!! Help

Hi there- we have had treco for about 2 years now- has always seemed health and happy in her? 10 gallon cage- we never handle her- has some vegetation- could maybe use more- has a log to hide under- use that coconut bedding- has two lights florecent and a heat lamp - have been misting and feeding calcium dusted and fed crickets - used to spend all her time right under the lights on the vegetation. Recently after the last shedding about a month ago things seemed to be different - was still eating or seemed to be but was spending more time on th bottom of the cage under things hiding from the light more...this morning she looks really badly - thin and dehyrated for sure but she seemed to have been eating over the last week...breathing heavy- I am going out of town and don't think she is going to make it. Have not given electrolytes yet - anything else I can do short of trying to find a vet...how much does this sort of thing generally run- I hate to see her suffer but hate to spend a ton of $ if she is going to die anyway...did that for cats twice.

Thanks - Things are all within the normal ranges for the last two years - nothing has changed. Its a little dry right now so I really sprayed down the cage and seems to look a little better but I do see some white crusty stuff in one of the eyes now that she has moved a few times.

"normal" can be different depending on who you talk to. What are the actual temps and humidity?

Re: Another Sick Anole!! Help

sorry- the temp right under the lights reads 95-100 where she usually hangs out- the cage average is about 80-85- she seems to move around to adjust her temp needs- at night - the house is about 65-70 in my sons room where she lives- humidity is about 70%?

Re: Another Sick Anole!! Help

pick her up. see if she has boogers. Listen for wheezing. If so its probably an upper respitory infection and simple antibiotics will clear that up.

Re: Another Sick Anole!! Help

For my leopard gecko, I paid $65 total for the office visit ($50) and 2 cc of antibiotics ($15). It was not a respiratory infection, though, it was more of a bacterial infection in her mouth, so I am not sure if the antibiotics themselves would be much different in pricing. Hope that helps! Good luck!

Re: Another Sick Anole!! Help

wow, never picked her up. Grab her gently by the middle then put her resting on your palm. yes, boogies, snot, any sort of discharge from the nose or eyes.

I have no idea what a vet trip should cost, but it should be near to what a vet checkup for your cat would be. As for transport, since its only a 10 gallon tank, just take the tank with you.

Re: Another Sick Anole!! Help

ok- I will try - lame I know but I was told that holding them stresses them out and she moves so quick I was worried she would get away..my fear of screwing up on this one has made moving her to a temp cage for cleaning really rough - thanks again.
