Cuban Knight Anoles in Love - but Not Eating
Could this be too much to hope. Both our male and female have just had their first shed and tonight we have a big show of the dew flap.
However they have stopped eating crickets. We are clearing the tank of crickets to ensure they are not bored of the site of them. No mean feat while trying not to disturb them! However the lack of eating is worrying me. I have offfered crickets literally on a plate and they are not bothered on the other hand the male has taken some orange however I am worried they are not eating correctly mostly for the female. They are eating waxworm however this is only a treat and we cant have this as a main diet. Help. We know they can have mealworms (going to try and find come kings tomorrow) but what about locust? |

Re: Cuban Knight Anoles in Love - but Not Eating
Try stop the waxworm and see what happens...it is known to happen that herps like waxworms sooo much that they will only want them and nothing else. Maybe try some silkworms...just try a few prey items and see what they will take...if conditions are all right then once hungry they will eat. What are enclosure specs? (temps etc.)

Re: Cuban Knight Anoles in Love - but Not Eating
Runs at around mid tank 80f with basking light , UVB, radiator plate for night heat.
Humidity is around 60 up to 70 when misted 4 times a day. Night temp is 72 lowest point Viv I think in imperial is 3' x 1'4" x 4'. Do they normal stop when they are ready to mate. Most of the books say they mate in Spring however the temp and light has been the same. They only came from the store. 3 weeks ago! |

Re: Cuban Knight Anoles in Love - but Not Eating
Any thoughts on locust. Silkworms are a little difficult to get hold of in the UK!
Should I be disturbing their mating to fish out these crickets and is it safe to starve an aole. Keep it off food for a day or 2. They were both eating 5-6 each a day. Could this have been a problem |

Re: Cuban Knight Anoles in Love - but Not Eating
young locusts should be fine... the fact that they are eating waxworms makes me think they are just being fussy. 1-2 days of no food is nothing to worry about

Re: Cuban Knight Anoles in Love - but Not Eating
good luck...they might just be tired of crix or just scarded to eat in front of people watching, just leave loose crickets running around for them.
