Postpone the frogs...
I research, and print out paper, but that's just not how I learn. So I went out and bought a lot of stuff, and was going to get tree frogs, and I had a pretty cool setup, but there will be problems keeping humidity in. So I have a tank all set up and now when I decide to get tree frogs, I'll be going in a completely different direction. So I'm looking at this enclosure now, and I like it, I think it's cool, even empty it's sort of grown on me. Originally I was going to stay away from anoles, but after watching them at the pet store, they're pretty darn cool. So now I can either take this tank apart, or if possible change it over for anoles. I just wanted other opinions before I decide. Were I to change it for anoles I would probably buy an under tank heater, a dripper, and probably close off one to three sides of the metal grate (the anoles do not need the same humidity as tree frogs but I still think this will be necessary), so any opinions?

Re: Postpone the frogs...
Anoles are fun to watch!
Is that just 1/4 inch screen around there or is it a reinforcement for a finer mesh? If its just 1/4 inch openings the anoles may get out. With an enclosure that tall and open an undertank heater really isn't going to do much. I would just use a basking lamp.

Re: Postpone the frogs...
It's a little smaller than 1/4" screen. It looks too small for an Adult Green Anole to escape from, but safer is better than sorry, I would end up reinforcing it with smaller screening on the sides not covered with plexi.

Re: Postpone the frogs...
You would be surprised what they can get thru!
Pretty much if their heads will fit thru it they are outta there!

Re: Postpone the frogs...
you would probably want to reinforce the top as well, They often are seen in hanging upside down from the tops of their enclosures...

Re: Postpone the frogs...
Anoles need close to the same humidity as green tree frogs do, plus the mesh looks a little wide, so I'd cover it with plexiglass, except the top, obviously. I'd also do away with the Under Tank Heater and go with a basking light. Anoles absorb their heat from above better than below. An Under Tank Heater will also dry out the substrate. If the enclosure is large enough you may be better off substituting the UVB light and basking light with a mercury vapor light, which will fill both roles. Speaking of which, if you haven't found out yet, you will need a light that gives off UVB radiation, which cannot penetrate plexiglass.

Re: Postpone the frogs...
i have a Under Tank Heater for my soon to be inhabited pacman frog tank. It doesn't overly dry the substrate, and having the heat rise through the substrate make the tank very humid. So humid I moved it from the bottom to the side. However I don't have a mesh top. So yes, his would still dry out. It does a good job of keeping the ambient heat up (with a top not mesh) but you would still need a basking spot.
Ryan you REALLY need to read care sheets better. Read them over a few times. The first one I found states they need humidity up to 80% and a 20 gallon will just barely house a pair. Green Anole Care Sheet and Information - WNYHS

Re: Postpone the frogs...
I just bought an Under Tank Heater for my exo-terra terrarium, will it completely dry out my substrate?

Re: Postpone the frogs...
Thats one out of the 10+ caresheet i've seen that says a twenty gallon would house 2 anoles. Many say 5 gallons an anole, I found one that says a twenty would house One male, and up to three females. I would have One Male, and one to two females. It seems i'll be able to keep my humidity up where I want it, The humidity at the bottom of the tank is about 80, the fake plants seem to block alot from leaving to the top of the tank. My only challange is the mesh, which will be enclosed with plexiglass, on three to four sides. The top reinforced with a finer screen(or top and front, after I plexi the three sides im going to watch the humidity over a day and decide if all four sides are neccasary) I realize it would be easier to buy a twenty tall, but I need the metal mesh to hold many of the fake plants and vines, and it provides a great climbing spot.
I may even rig up a automatic misting system. (lamp timer with a electric sprinkler)
