Colour Changing...

Well, ever since i've had anoles, (which has been over 5 years now) I've been wondering, what does it mean when (GREEN) anoles turn brown? Does it mean they're unhappy or something? Or does it just mean they're blending in?

Re: Colour Changing...

IT has to do with stress levels. MY Phelsuma do the same thing, they'll go from the bright green to a dull brownish green.

It can also mean that they are cold. Darker colors absorb heat better than lighter.

Re: Colour Changing...

Both are true. A stressed out anole will turn darker, as will a cold one. A dark patch will also often appear behind the eye when an anole is particularly stressed out. If they go through a period of sudden activity or excitement they may turn green, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're happy. Usually a light brown isn't too much to be worried about though. It's the dark browns and that patch behind the eye that really means they're overstressed.

It can mean many things, like their hungry or their shedding their skin or their thirsty or bad heat or if their just in the mood to.
