odd noise
Funny thing. For the last few nights my anoles have been hanging out together behind one of the plants. I know they are a male and a female. Now I know what you might be thinking "Did your mother not tell you about the birds and the bees?" Well yes she did. BUT they are making very odd noises almost like a chirping or crackling sound. Both myself and my husband have looked in on them to make sure they are the ones making the sound and they are. Or a least one of them is. Dose anyone have a take on this. Also an suggestions on good internet sights that I can do research on would be great. If they are doing the deed then I better read up on how to handel the out come. Thanks Jackie

Re: odd noise
sounds like some mating calls to me. Be sure to have a place for the female to lay eggs. I'm not exactly sure what this is, but she will need one. Someone will chime in on proper care.

Re: odd noise
The only thing that concerns me is that I don't believe anoles can make vocal sounds. I've kept them for years and never seen or heard it, nor heard of it from anywhere else (though until I hear or read that they can't, I'll leave the possibility open). Geckos are the lizards you usually think of when sounds are mentioned, they can be quite vocal.
One thing that can produce crackling sounds is a respiratory infection. If a sick anole is huffing and puffing amid some intimate activities, it could be the cause. I don't want to jump to conclusions though, I'm just trying to think of all the possibilities. Maybe yours really do just make sounds. What's your habitat like though, just in case.
Oh yeah, and what species of anole is this?

Re: odd noise
The Habitat is a 50gal aquarium. Substrate is a combination of jungle soil, jungle bark, and moss. It is kept wet but not sloppy wet. Humidity is a solid 70 and heat ranges from 80 to 86ish. Lower at night. There are two uv lights both new. The back is covered in plants for hiding and fun. Front has 3 basking spots as well as a water dish, drift wood, and more plants. They seem to be making this noise at about the same time every night. I will listen again to night.

Re: odd noise
The habitat sounds pretty good. What species are they though? I did some quick poking around and I did find that at least some anole species (or at least Anolis occultus) can vocalize when threatened. I know you don't have that species, and that I've never heard green or brown anoles make noise (which are the two most likely species you would have), but it is possible. If an anole were ever making noise though, I would assume it to be a defensive move, not a mating call. When it comes to anole mating practices, they're more visually oriented.

Re: odd noise
It looks like she's got Green Anoles (Anolis carolinensis).
She has a couple of pictures here:

Re: odd noise
I think the noise has now stopped and the are no longer hiding together behind the plant. I see one of them has shed as I found his body suit hanging From a plant. Monday they all had a giant feed of crickets. One of my long tails ate 10 in one go. I'm watching the female for pregnant fatness. I think that noise was them doing the nasty. If she is prenant they say she will get fat (what dose fat look like)how long dose this last before she lays her eggs. I've read quite a few places and not found very helpful info. Just to be on the safe side I have increased the calcium on the crickets to every other day.

Re: odd noise
I would back off on adding more calcuim. Its very easy to overdo it and will cause more harm than good.

It could just be your crickets in your cage.
