Re: Aquariums
Hello,
How many reptiles are you purchasing? I ask because I just finished reading your leo thread asking about terrarium decor.
I am going to make a suggestion, and I hope you don't take this the wrong way.
You need to do some research. Some of the questions I have read that you have posted dictate that you have not done a great deal of research on the species you are interested in. Its almost as if you would prefer we do the research and simply give you the answers.
Responsible ownership starts with educating yourself on the species you like or may be interested in owning. The first thing that you should be doing is looking for quality literature on the species you like. In literature, I mean actual books.
Caresheets are designed to display the basic care for an animal. This way, potential enthusiasts can then begin to decide if the species sounds like something they may be interested in and capable of keeping.
I do not know how many anoles can reside in a 55 gallon aquarium as I do not keep anoles currently. I bet that a book on their care though does explain how much space one anole requires and then just figure in how many times that amount of space will fit into a 55 gallon tank.

Re: Aquariums
Well the thing is I do research about 2 weeks in advance before I get the terrarium set up.

The ideal amount would be 5, but you can put up to 8.
P.S.
I have had anoles for 4 years.

Re: Aquariums
I have not had anoles, so do not speak from experience, just research back when I was debating purchasing them. On Paper a 55 should hold 5-8, but the more room each has the happier they would be, also, from what i've read mixing males is a big no-no, granted most reptile's are the same way, unless your trying to breed, in which case some breeders claim putting two males with a group of females will force competition, one male will win out, (usualy ending in the death of the other male) and speed up the process. but Personaly I don't like the idea of pitting caged animals against eash other one bit. after saying all this, my personal opinion, One Male and Three Females, or Four to Five Females. But thats just me going on what I Think would be ideal.

Re: Aquariums
I believe the "rule" for how many per habitat is 1 anole per 10 gallons.

Re: Aquariums
lol. No such thing as "Rules" for how much space a animal should have, the answer is as much space as it Needs
Though, just to point it out, this question was asked back in October 26, 2007.

Re: Aquariums
BTW I obtained that information "how many per habitat is 1 anole per 10 gallons" from a very experienced person who studied anoles for 40 years. He studied them in the wild and in captivity and found they had the best survival rate with 1 per 10 gallons. Whatever your choice is for their habitat, I hope they live long & happy lives.

Actually there are. There are specific guidelines as to how much space an animal needs. Most care sheets and books will tell you that (x species) will need (x size of enclosure) usually stated as a minimum requirement.
In fact some places even have laws spelling out how much space an animal has to have or you will find yourself in violation of animal cruelty ordinances.

Those numbers are usually based on MINIMUMS, not maximums.
