i have had a few green anoles and I have found they need alot of hanging plants opposed to hides...i have never seen the anoles going into the caves...
i have always put alot of live POTHOS plants as well as a few fake ones(they love to hide in the plants close to the heat bulb!!
the pothos plant grows like a weed and they love it
good luck

Re: Emaciated Anole
Hey Moshpit I converted her tank into a vivarium. what do you think?
all the pics are in my gallery, or if you want a step-by-step you can go to the general construction forum under "my first vivarium"

Re: Emaciated Anole
Looks good. However I would make a couple of additions.
Anoles are arboreal so giving them a few branches will make them happier. Also by placing the branches so that they can get higher it will bring them closer to the UVB light.
I would also get some pothos or even some fake vines with leaves on a more vertical orientation to spread out the cover in the tank giving them more hiding places and making the anole feel more secure.

Re: Emaciated Anole
trust me, she has plenty of hiding places in there. and there is pothos it's behind the big stones. she's been climbing on the wall in the back most of the time, and it's right under the light

Re: Emaciated Anole
The cover across the tank will prevent her from feeling ike she has to make a mad dash from one spot to the next.
The more secure they feel the more naturally they will behave.

Re: Emaciated Anole
I second Merlin's remarks. The tank does look good though, but it doesn't mimic a tree very well, more like the ground near some trees. Add a diagonal branch across the middle, with leaves and such coming off it, or something similar. Empty space on the ground isn't too bad, but you don't want too much empty space in the air.

How many crix does she eat in a day?
You also mentioned the Reptisun sounding like it may have been a bad thing. If it's the linear kind...these are ok. It's the compact style that are on the "do not buy" list until the issues are fixed with the manufacturers. Unless you can guarantee the bulb is new for an eBay purchase you may want to think twice about purchasing it.
You definitely want her closer to the UVB. She should be within about 8" of the light. Taller plants will help... .
Keep in mind that humidity does not fix dehydration. Humidity is external through air moisture - hydration is internal through oral intake.
My daughters green anole (many moons ago) loved drinking water from the glass and from the leaves of the live plants. I've recently found that live plants hold water drops so much better than plastic or silk. I have REALLY paid attention with the chams. I have a pothos in one of the cham cages and under the UVB bulb it's going nuts! I will be able to trim it soon and start cuttings for the other chams enclosure. It's also one of those "almost impossible plants to kill" I need in my house... .

Re: Emaciated Anole
Easy now. I was just wanting to clarify. I wanted to make sure you were meaning three crix a day (2 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon) or three times a day (2 feedings in the a.m. and 1 feeding in the afternoon).
Three crix a day is not very many. My green anole ate much more than that. The baby chams now eat between 40 -60 - 1/8" - 3/16" crix a day. You may try boosting the diet and try 5. If she eats all of those...try a couple more added to that....and so on. Until she starts leaving crix behind. She needs to make up for lost time...
Your first setup was really good. I'd love to see the new one!
