Hello,

I thought I would share a picture with everyone. lol This little guy hatched less than 2 hours ago. The dime is there so you can get an idea as to how tiny he is. lol

There won't be any update pics of this little one. He wasn't hatched as a pet. He was hatched to give my cornsnake, Rayne, some exercise. (Sorry if this offends anyone.)

Rayne is very much aware of him being in her enclosure. lol She hasn't made any attempts (yet) at catching him, so he may have a few hours to be free and romp around. Even at that size, and as young as he is, this little guy can move! lol Its funny watching him jump though. He will stand in one place and then just jump forward a few inches. i think he is trying to work his leg muscles some.

Rayne has a fondness for anole, which simply may be instinctive as they are natural prey for them. (Anoles are one of the many things a corn will eat given the chance.)

Huh, I knew corns will eat anoles, but I guess I never considered them a regular prey item. I'm used to the thought of them going for warm-blooded prey I guess. I wonder if my rat snake would eat a lizard...

An anole is how I got Rayne to feed in the first place. She refused pinkies, even the "tricks" we use to entice them (braining). Her first prey was a live pinkie with an exposed brain. Her second meal was an anole and she has never refused a meal for me since.

My belief is that a corn, much like a garter, will eat anything that they come across in their native habitat that is edible. I have no doubt that anole is on their menu down south. lol Especially since their are so many of them down there. I do not believe they are a staple item, especially at their speeds, but I do believe that if the opportunity presents itself, they are readily consumed. (Rayne loves the things!)
