Tails?
I`ve noticed looking through pictures of african fat tailed geckos I see alot of tails with points that look alot more like leopord gecko tails. Even on breeder websites and on different websites about african fat tails. Mine has a more rounder tail that looks like his head and I assume that is what they all should look like. Im just confused on all that??

Re: Tails?
Does your gecko's tail look more like this one?
http://www.dkimages.com/discover/pre...1/45041082.JPG If so, it's possible he lost his tail in the past and regrew it. Otherwise their tails usually look more like this: http://www.mikescritters.com/critter...iled_gecko.jpg For all I know there are also some with stumpy tails that have never had to regrow one though. But either way, there's nothing wrong with your gecko's tail.

Re: Tails?
Mine looks like the first one, I see the second type of tail all the time searching aft`s. So are those tails that look like heads are always regrown ones? I definately like the rounder ones more.

Re: Tails?
More than likely they are. Like I said, for all I know original tails can also look like that, but I wouldn't know for sure. I do know that a regrown tail will look stumpy like that though.

Re: Tails?
Usually color is a better indicator of a regenerated tail. If the color seems to flow from the body into the tail it's probably original. If it seems to be it's own color/shade it's more than likely regenerated.
The tail is supposed to mimic the head so predators are unsure of which end to attack. |

Re: Tails?
I know the head is supposed to look like a tail and mine surelt does, but I see so many with pointed tails, They look more like leopard geckos to me than fat tails.

Re: Tails?
Yeah that second picture posted looks like a leo to me!! In that case, would there be any other way to tell if it was a AFT vs leo??

Re: Tails?
There are differences in appearance.

Re: Tails?
Ah, I didn't see the pictures before. Yeah, you can actually see where his tail broke off, about halfway down. Where the texture changes from the ridges, to being less defined and pudgy. That last half of his tail is regrown tissue.
