I'm Astonished!!!!!!!
It's 4:00 in the morning, and I just walked in on my AFTs copulating! I am so ignorant about gecko reproduction that I didn't even know that they copulate in that manner. I thought they were like fish, she lays eggs, he fertilizes them, end of story. He has a penis - I could never have imagined a gecko penis. It's rather strange.
They didn't start laying eggs until I moved them from a 10 to a 20 gallon, and the pet store had told me they were both male, so I didn't even know this might come to pass. At the pet store, they had been in a max. 10 gallon enclosure for 9 months, and they didn't reproduce there either. So the switch to 20 was definitely the factor. Plus they seem happier. I put them in the 20 right before I left for a few months, so my friend had them and started telling me they were M&F, and that she was laying eggs once a month.
Well, I now need advice about exactly what to do if/when eggs come. I'd like to hatch them, if possible. We love our AFTs, and would welcome babies. I have no intention of becoming a breeder, but this would be neat for our family of humans and other species.
I hope you all don't mind the sexually graphic posting, and that you might be happy for us about this, and would really appreciate your advice.
Jennifer
