fat tail cross breed?

This is what our member has to say: I hadn't considered the self-amputation thing (sounds like a hard core grunge song of some kind). When my husband gets home tomorrow, I'll take pics ...

Re: fat tail cross breed?

I hadn't considered the self-amputation thing (sounds like a hard core grunge song of some kind). When my husband gets home tomorrow, I'll take pics and post them, although, being new, I'm not quite sure how to do that. I'm sure I'll figure it out. For now, I'm going to search the internet for pictures of leopard geckos with regenerated tails. Should be interesting...

Thanks again for input. You're an interesting group, which I'm glad to have joined.

Re: fat tail cross breed?

The mystery is solved. On the net, I found several pictures of Leopard Geckos with regenerated tails, and my geckos definitely look like them. The pics you posted confirm my suspicion - the bulbous end of your gecko's tail is exactly what mine have. My question now is, should I care? I like the two we have, and feel attached to them, etc. But it bothers me that this seller, a wildlife rehabilitator, misrepresented them to me. The seller must have known that I'm a novice and figured I'd never know the diff. between a leo w/ regenerated tail and a fat-tail. I only paid $60 for the pair, because it was actually an adoption fee. She said she got them from animal control, who brought them to her for rehab. When our other fat-tail died, we really wanted another one. But if I get one more beyond these guys, that'll be too many, meaning I won't be able to give personal attention to them all. What to do? Any thoughts? -Jen Gal

Re: fat tail cross breed?

Leopard geckos are great little lizards, but i'd make sure that you let the rehaber know that she misrepresented them to you. It may be that shes just as ignorant as you were and didnt care enough to research the mystery lizards.

With that said if you decide to keep them their care is different than that of the AFT so check out our caresheet:

Re: fat tail cross breed?

You paid an okay price for them. If she had charged you for a hybrid price. Then you would have had to "take care of some business". Still I would take what you know now and let her know your findings. Might as well give her some education in case she comes across another Leo with a regenerated tail.
