Iguana Needs Good Home

Louie is about 9 years old. I adopted him from a friend of a friend that was moving into an apartment and would not allow him. He is 3 - 4 Feet long. Loves human contact (I honestly had no idea a lizard could be so loving). Litter box trained. He is good with Kids, Dogs and Cats.

I have developed SEVER allergies to his dander and can not give him the attention he needs and deserves.

I will include all of the supplies I have for him which include

Cage (I never close the cage. He is allowed to roam free in his bedroom and sometimes the house. this should be kept in mind. I am not sure how he would react to being stuck in a cage all day.)
7' tall
4' wide
2' deep

his lights and ceramic heat light
Litter Box

We live in St. Charles MO. which is about 15 minutes west of St. Louis.

well

What I have always wanted was a Iguana, Especially to adopt one beacause there are so many out there that need help.. My mother as some may know tends to change her mind on things alot I dont know what she would say but I would love to give it a try! I live in kansas so I wouldnt have to travel very far and it would be well worth it.

As I have said before I ahave limited acesses to the internet is there anyway I can have your phone nuimber and I can call you? If you want mine I can give that to you also.

Ace, have you done any reading on how to care for an ig: how big they get, what they should eat, proper light sources, and temps for them? If not, you need to BEFORE you take one. Looks like this one comes pretty well set-up, but there's still gonna be a vet visit to pay for (about $75-100 total with lab work and meds, if needed). Louie is small for his age, which makes me think there was some poor care at some point which means the potential for health problems is quite high.

Your mom should also do some research so she knows what you all are getting into.

Plus you'll need to figure out where that cage will go and how you'll get it home. If the cage doesn't come apart, it probably won't fit in your house... most doors are only 6 feet tall.

I don't mean to spoil your plans, but there's a lot more to consider than just the fact that an ig needs a home. If you'd like, I'd love to talk privately with you and your mom about it.

ok

I have been reserching Iguanas since I was 10 yrs old! My mother knows exactly what is needed and so do I! I tryed to rehab a young one but it died with no Success, with the cage I already thought of that and I was going to ask about that or have a few of my male friends help me out of figureing that out. As for vet I have a great one that has worked with my baby Iguana that passed and my water dragons. I have money and I am willing to use it on any animal above myself

Easy there Audrey! Nobody is attacking you. Steph is just concerned that you might not know what you were getting into. That is something many of us that are long term keepers of iguanas are all too familiar with. There is a lot to consider when taking on one of these guys. She just didn't want you to get caught unaware.

Not a problem, apology accepted! It sounds like you've done quite a bit of research, but I'd still like to give you a call if you don't mind. Rich PM'd me your contact info, and I'll call you tomorrow (Saturday). I'm looking forward to talking!

i love iguanas, i had one for 3 years, they are very affectionate, uvb lighting , ours also roamed the whole house, he was potty trained to go in his water dish, and he would come out to the kitchen every morning before I went to school to get some green beans or corn or carrots or peas ect, and he would say goodbye by climbing up my pants and my shirt to sit on my head, he even slept under my pillow , waking up to a big green face was a shock but it made me smile. they are lovely pets and I hope all goes well with him getting a home, i would have spoke for him but hes already spoken for...and I cant come get him lol. ace I hope if you get him you will enjoy him a whole lot!

If this falls through I have a really good vet in Chesterfield for my ig. They may be able to point you toward someone who will adopt the ig. Or, if you call the office and ask very nicely, they may allow you to post an adoption flier on a bulletin board.

Clarkson-Willson Vet Clinic -- on Clarkson road between Baxter and Kehrs Mills, about 5 minutes south of 40/64
