Gaboon Viper

I know this is one heck of a long shot, but due to recent unfortunate circumstances, I need to find a home fairly quickly for my female Gaboon. All of the snakes are currently staying with friends (as my step-mother is terrified of them) and said friends just don't have the means or knowledge to take care of a venomous species. I'm not asking any money for her - just someone who knows what they're doing and can give her the care she deserves.

That is unfortunant Hannah. I wish I had experience with hots because a gabby would be my first choice. Alas I don't have enough experience, nor do I have a location in my home where I could safely house one away from my kids.

My head is hung low because my fingers want me to say "pick me, pick me". But I can't.

Yeah, we're in a REALLY awful situation where my fiance and I are both being accused of things we didn't do and could both face a prison sentence. The people the snakes are with are not people I'm trying to associate with. I need to find a place for all of the snakes to go, potentially, with the possibility of selling them for reasonable prices. The Gaboon, however, I just need to find a home for ASAP. I'm out of options. I've been looking for months.

I am so sorry for the problems you are having. If I had any experience with "hots" I like Rich would snap your gaboon viper up in a skinny minute as that is my favorite venomous snake and my wife's favorite snake altogether. Also like Rich I couldn't house it safely with my 2 year old son running around the house. Good luck in your search and please accept my well wishes for you and yours.

You could call local zoos - Hot snakes are not something they get calls for often, especially non-natives. If you are able to donate, you might even get a tax receipt for making a donation to a non-profit organization. It's a bit of a stretch, but it isn't like the Boas and Sav's we are constantly getting bombarded with. Also see if there are local reptile breeders that deal with hots. There is one in my area that takes in any snakes, no questions, no fees, fines or penalties, to discourage people from introducing them into the wild, but I don't know if they would look into anything from out of the area. I have had hots before but I live in Utah so I don't know how you would get them here? I had a western rattler, but I was a helping out the local zoo they had a female and needed a male for breeding so I donated him to the zoo I would love a gabby for sure I wish there was some way to get him here!!!

I didn't even think of the zoo option!!
However, I talked to Rick Krumrine, who's a good friend of ours, and he's agreed to take everyone so I don't have to worry anymore. He even said he's willing to hold onto the albino burm and boa constrictor that are in our personal collection until all this is settled. I feel so much better! =D

I'm glad you got everything worked out - and I hope everything settles out okay for you. I had an uncle serve a sentence for something he never did too, our justice system really isn't as perfect as we'd like it to be.
